West thu hail and Mae Govannan randir!

Welcome! I’m Rebecca Davis, PhD Candidate, English instructor, and researcher in Tolkien, folklore, and fantasy literature. Here you will find a hoard of my musings and thoughts on the writing and characters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth Legendarium and other works of fantasy literature (though I will admit that this blog will probably be as focused on Tolkien as a hobbit is on getting supper), along with the occasional rambling into my life as college teacher and as a PhD student.

This site not only holds my thoughts on various themes and characters from The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, but I also touch on some other topics involving the Tolkien community, such as adaptations of the Professor’s work (both authorized and not), different ways that the Tolkien fandom engages with the texts (both legally and not), and possibly even what exactly it means to be a Tolkien fan in this day and age.

So if that sounds as appealing to you as free mushrooms does to a hobbit, welcome! Pull up a chair, grab a mug or a pint, and let’s go on this adventure!

It’s the job as is never started that takes the longest to finish.
